When is an electrical inspection useful?
You don’t have to wait until something stops working. An inspection can be useful whenever you need a clearer picture of the condition of an existing installation.

What can be checked?
The exact checks depend on the property and the reason for the inspection. A typical electrical safety assessment can include:

ELECTRICAL PANEL
The fuse board is an important part of the inspection
The electrical panel contains the protective devices for the installation. During an inspection I can review the arrangement of the circuits, circuit breakers, RCD protection and the general condition of the board.
An older fuse board does not automatically need replacing. If the existing protection is inadequate, damaged or unsuitable for the installation, I can explain the available upgrade options.

The purpose of the inspection is not simply to find reasons to replace everything. Existing installations can vary considerably in age and condition.
I will explain the relevant findings and distinguish between issues that require attention and improvements that may simply be advisable.
If electrical work is required, I can provide a separate quote for the necessary repairs or upgrades.

Do you actually need a CIE / boletín eléctrico?
An electrical safety inspection and a CIE are not necessarily the same service. If you have specifically been asked for a Certificado de Instalación Eléctrica or boletín eléctrico, see the dedicated CIE service.

Electrical inspection questions
What does an electrical safety inspection include?
The scope depends on the property and the reason for the inspection. It can include inspection of the electrical panel, protective devices, RCDs, earthing, circuits and relevant electrical measurements.
Can you inspect an apartment before I buy it?
Yes. An electrical inspection can help you understand the condition of the existing installation before purchasing a property, particularly in older homes.
Does an old electrical installation have to be completely rewired?
Not necessarily. Age alone does not determine whether a complete rewire is needed. The condition of the wiring, protection, earthing and circuits needs to be assessed before deciding what work is appropriate.
Can you test the RCDs and fuse board?
Yes. Inspection of the electrical panel and testing of relevant protective devices can form part of the electrical safety assessment.
Can you repair problems found during the inspection?
Yes. If electrical defects or necessary improvements are identified, I can provide a separate quote for the required electrical work.
Is an electrical inspection the same as a CIE?
No. A general electrical safety inspection is an assessment of the installation. A CIE or boletín eléctrico is specific electrical installation documentation and involves its own inspection, testing and certification process.
