Is your electrical panel due for an upgrade?

The fuse board is at the centre of your electrical installation. It distributes power around the property and contains the protective devices for the different electrical circuits.

Older electrical panels may have limited protection, outdated equipment, insufficient space for additional circuits or a layout that no longer suits the installation.

An old fuse board does not automatically mean that an installation is unsafe. The condition of the panel, circuits, earthing and protective devices should be assessed before deciding what work is required.

When to consider an upgrade

Common reasons for replacing a fuse board

Every installation is different, but these are some of the most common reasons customers ask me to inspect or upgrade their panel.

01

Old Protection

Older panels may not provide the same type or level of protection expected from a modern electrical installation.

02

Frequent Tripping

Repeated RCD or breaker trips can indicate a fault or another issue that should be diagnosed before simply replacing components.

03

New Circuits

EV chargers, air conditioning, kitchens and other additions may require dedicated circuits and suitable electrical protection.

04

Renovating

A renovation is a good opportunity to review the existing panel and adapt it to the new electrical installation.

More than simply changing the breakers

A fuse board upgrade should take the existing installation into account. The circuits, conductor sizes, earthing and protective devices all need to work together correctly.

  • Assessment of the existing electrical panel
  • Suitable main and circuit protection
  • RCD protection where required
  • Surge protection where appropriate
  • Organisation and identification of circuits
  • Electrical testing after installation

Send me photos of your current fuse board

In many cases I can get a good initial idea of the work required from clear photographs before arranging a visit.

2Close photos of the breakers, RCDs and labels
3A short description of what you want to change

Photos are useful for an initial assessment, but the final scope of work may depend on inspection and testing at the property.

FAQ

Fuse board upgrade questions

Does an old fuse board always need replacing?

No. Age alone does not determine whether a panel must be replaced. Its condition, protection, circuits and the overall electrical installation should be assessed.

Can you quote from photos?

Clear photos can often provide enough information for an initial estimate. The final price and scope may change if inspection or testing reveals additional work.

Can you add new circuits at the same time?

Yes, depending on the existing installation and available capacity. New circuits can be considered as part of the fuse board work.

Will I receive a CIE / boletín?

This depends on the scope and condition of the installation. Certification is not automatically included simply because a fuse board is replaced. I can advise you after assessing the work required.
